PAST FESTIVALS

2014 - WINTER - The Inaugural EAFF

Winning Video:  The AK Way

Producer: Brett Romanow

Defining Feature: Has a helicopter in it...

Winners Bio: Brett was conceived approximately 9 months before that cold snowy night in November in Edmonton. In his early childhood, Brett sustained several significant head injuries requiring hospitalization for him, and a lot of questioning from social services. Soon afterwards, he knew he wanted to be a firefighter. When given the option of presenting social studies projects in front of the class, or via home made film, Brett and his friends enthusiastically chose the video route. Not only were his movies mostly off topic (almost always involving throwing a dummy off a bridge or cliff), but his school grades accurately reflected the effects of concussions on a brain still very much under development. Brett likes firefighting, riding bikes, dropping cliffs, and helicopters. He and his wife, Nicole live in Canmore. So he also likes granola and lattés.

2015 - SUMMER - Extremely Injured Film Fest

Winning Video:  Evolution

Producer: Will Cuthbert

Defining Feature: Ouch.

Winners Bio: Will is a huge, 200lb Ginger with a penchant for English literature, fine scotch, and arbitrary violence towards his friends. Brought forth into this world in what I can only assume was some horrible accident at 'Industrial Chemicals, Sperm Bank, and Waste Removal Solutions Co.', Will reached his full potential when he won the 2015 Summer EAFF by entering a video showcasing his profound inability to stay on his bike. What do we know about will? The factual video about his life says it all: he steals souls, is incapable of love, just doesn't listen, is creepy, and clearly thinks he's better than you. Congratuf*ckinglations Will, and we wish you many, many more bails.

2015/16 - WINTER - The Winter That Wasn't

Winning Video:  WCB II

Producer: Roger Planden

Defining Feature: Will make you cry. Every time.

Winners Bio: Roger is likely the most highly decorated producer that the EAFF has ever seen, winning the best soundtrack award several years running, producing EAFF classics such as 'Radio', and now taking the 'Best Video' Award. Naturally, because of this, everyone hates him and wishes he would just go home. His desperation to always win everything, regardless of the means, or the people he leaves crushed and bleeding along the way is ever-present in his winning video, in which he exploits the birth of his beautiful baby girl for a cheap tear-jerk reaction from the audience. His despicable behavior has earned him a special place in hell, and we look forward to more excellent EAFF entries in the future.

2016 - SUMMER - The Last Seasonal EAFF

Winning Video:  The Scout

Producer: Grayson Cockett

Defining Feature: Spent way too much time on it

Winners Bio: Grayson is a super good guy, and I'm pretty sure nobody has anything bad to say about him at all. I'm especially sure that nobody has any issue with the fact that he won his own film festival, and I can't imagine that they will tease him in any way in the 2017 'Roast Last Years Winner' Video...

2017 - The Most Official EAFF EVER!

Winning Video: Full Circle

Producer: Roger Planden

Defining Feature: Largest Medical Bill

Winners Bio: In the largest upset in EAFF history, Roger Planden, who is widely known as a total award-hoarder and all-around jerk, became the first ever 2-time EAFF Champion with his breakthrough film 'Full Circle' which literally 'broke through' all the rules surrounding use of outdated footage, banned songs, and I'm pretty sure some provincial legislation regarding the sharing of personal medical information. This unprecedented win has sparked an internal EAFF review and an investigation into allegations of judicial bribery and fraud dating back as far as 2014. Unfortunately, due to a recent EAFF Guiding Committee bylaw change, these investigations may only be conducted while sitting in a hot tub, and only after the mandatory 4 beer imbibement policy has been observed, which has set back progress significantly.

2018 - The FANCIEST EAFF EVER!

Winning Video: Bomberos sin Fronteras 2017

Producer: Brett Romanow

Defining Feature: Actually Quite Incredible

Winners Bio: Firefighter, hero, philanthropist, firefighter, saint... just a few words that describe the now famous Brett Romanow, who wanted us to let you know that he is a firefighter who fights fires and is a hero. In a disturbing departure from the EAFF's proud tradition of pumping out pointless filler, Brett took the 2018 Film Fest by storm with the documentary of his real-life journey to donate a much needed firetruck to a remote village in Mexico. It's a heartwarming tale of friendship, community, and the struggle to overcome pointless inter-jurisdictional red tape. This is as real as it gets, and it will get you right in the feels. Thanks a lot Brett for raising the bar to an impossible height for next year, and making it impossible for us to make fun of you. You suck.
